[IKI001] Royston Bassmann - 2004 Speculation

We’re excited to announce the release of ‘2004 Speculation’ produced by Royston Bassmann. Five tracks spanning tech house, electro and experimental sounds, ‘2004 Speculation’ is equal parts nostalgic and forward-looking. Informed by years of digging, a decade-long obsession with vinyl and a deep understanding of how music translates from DJ to dancer, it’s an impressive first outing from Royston Bassmann. Effortless production, expert arrangements, and a strong vision combine on the EP to reflect an artist who’s been paying attention for a long time. Pulling sounds, samples and inspirations from multiple corners, Royston shows heavy influence from the storybook of Y2K clubs, labels, DJs and legends. The result is tech house with room to breathe — trippy without stuttering, glitchy without stumbling. It’s a body of work that belongs to no moment. Kicking off with the invigorated intro track ‘R2G’, AKA Ready 2 Go, the EP marks the first of many projects for both the label and the artist. The collaborative efforts between graphic artist Laurent Wyans and photographer Riley Hart package up IKI001 as an object just as worthy of being on the platter or on display.
